The
Gym Bag Bible Program... |

| How
it began… |

In
April 2002 Dr. Rev. Steve Poos-Benson, Minister of Columbine
United Church in Littleton, Colorado, approached 4 members
of the church (David Tabor, Tom and Maggie Froning and
Suzan Leach) with an idea to help members of the church
become more physically fit. Steve had had tremendous success
in becoming physically fit and believed strongly in a
connection between physical and spiritual fitness. David,
Suzan, Tom and Maggie had all had similar success in achieving
fitness and Steve proposed that a new class be created
with the purpose of helping people become physically fit,
and combining fitness with themes of faith, God and life.
The first class began with 35. 16 weeks later the next
session began with 48 and the 3rd class began with 66
attendees. As of April 2003, there are 80 people enrolled.
To date hundreds of people have been a part of the Gym
Bag Bible Program®. Clearly, the program is having
astounding effects on lives - the results are so exciting!
What began as a way to help people get physically fit
has become something much more. Participants are achieving
transformations beyond losing weight – committed
participants experience transformations that affect them
deeply, and in ways that compel them to make meaningful
changes in their lives. One participant wrote:
“You really helped me get the ball rolling on a
project I've been developing for years. It's funny how
once things get moving and action is taken, how other
things start to fall into place. I left my (job) to work
at (new job) so I could be around (what I love)... I really
miss the class. It had a tremendous impact on me. I feel
the principles I learned these last months will help guide
me for years to come. I can't tell you enough how meaningful
the program has been for me.” Another
participant wrote
"I’d
been having crippling migraine headaches for as long as
I can remember. Since I began the program I’ve gone
58 consecutive days without a migraine – a record
for me.
We aren’t sure exactly why people who become more
physically and spiritually fit become motivated to transform
their lives. It most probably involves the developing
understanding of what God’s purpose is for our lives
and a new strength to pursue God’s purpose that
comes from improved self-image, confidence, and renewed
faith in life’s journey."
But knowing why isn’t really all that important.
What is important is that the class helps people transform
their lives in ways that they become closer to God, and
with the desire to serve him. For each person transformed
through the pursuit of God’s purpose, the world
is a far better place. Helping people achieve this is
the Mission of the Gym Bag Bible Program®... Welcome!
